There a lot of myths surrounding peoples credit reports - you often hear the phrase "I've been blacklisted" or "I have a bad credit record" or "my credit file is poor". In fact none of these statements has any basis in fact.

There are no credit blacklists, and people dont have bad or poor credit.

Everyone does however, have a comprehensive credit history - whether that is positive or negative is entirely up to the company that is assessing your credit application.

Your credit history will contain all the information about all different sorts of credit agreements you have had in the past and how you have operated within those credit agreements. When people have county court judgements against them or have a credit history of missing minimum payments this leads to many people failing credit companies minimum criteria hence people feeliing they are on some dreaded "blacklist" when in fact it is simply that credit companies requiremnets which dictated whether you accepted for a card loan or other finance agreement.

This can be an invaluable way to check your history before applying for a credit card, loan or mortgage.
