American Express Credit Cards
American Express Credit Cards were one of the first credit card deals offered to the public. The American Express Credit Card were first offered to the wealthy global travelers in America and then to businessman who traveled for business, as the card was originally used to pay for travel expenses, such as hotels and airfare. The American Express Credit Card was known as the travel card. The American Express Credit Card was the first to receive global recognition.
American Express Credit Cards were original offered as just the green travel card, and overtime the cards were offered in Black, Platinum, and Gold based on usage and to provide better services to the holders of the cards. It was not until much later, that the special plans and promotions were offered to American Express Credit Card holders and the user could simply purchase the programs and services and move to the different level cards, by paying higher membership fees.
The American Express Credit card, was unique as compared to the other cards coming on the horizon, the American Express Credit card, did not have a credit limit. Each purchase was analyzed along with the holders past usage and history.
If your purchase was out of line from your normal spending habits, an American Express Customer Service agent would speak with you and in most cases approve the purchase. It was not until the growth and success of credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard did American Express begin to offer retail style credit cards with credit limits.
